Finders Keepers Market- Melbourne

Installation artwork above sound stage

Today I went to the bi-annual Finders Keepers market at Shed 4 Docklands.

The markets have been running in Sydney since 2008 and are gradually picking up momentum across other Australian cities. The premise is to support and showcase emerging designers, artists and musicians. While a lot of the offerings fall into the same-same (fabric covered button post earring times one thousand) category there is strong contigent of operators offering something very different! I have not been offered a cut to mention the following........although I would have accepted a soy latte as payment!

Check out:
  • Bonsai Kitten, due to launch their webiste in 2 weeks, who offer beautiful knickers, the high top cheeky cut being my favourite.
  • Pigeonhole who delivered a smidgen of their range. Further exploration of their website is a must!
  • Beautiful stationary for those who like me have a slight addiction to the feel of a good quality paper in their hand- Bespoke Letterpress. Log in with a tissue to clean up drool.
  • For those with two legged children try herbert and friends, for quirky soft toys. Warning no manufactured characters here! Your little ones will be free to imagine their own back story to these cute soft toys! and jolie petite chose for one of a kind made to order mobiles. Can I have one even though I am fashionably middle aged?
  • Beattie Lanser for clothes, ready to wear!
  • For artwork that takes you to another dimension try When You Escape. Ethereal.
  • I parted with some notes at Sollis Jewellery. Macrami is alive people and not a single hanging pot plant to be found!
    Sollis cuff
  • Lastly Corky Saint Clair for jewellery with humour. They too have a large range.

The coffee was fine although I should have ordered a double shot and DJ Brasco gets a big thumbs up for playing Jesus and the Mary Chain when I first walked in. I hung around to listen to Courtney Barnett. Her brand of indie pop was fitting musical accompainment to my Sunday morning swaggering.

The next market in Melbourne will be Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd October (check out the website for Brisbane and Sydney dates).

Get yourself there! Happy shopping!

Stencil Art- Melbourne

Stencil graffiti subculture has been around for about 30 years. In a recent walk around Melbourne CBD I found this little gem. For those who like to explore go to Crossley Street.
